VW/Audi 1.6 TDI CR EA288 Engine Specs, Problems & Reliability. The EA288 engine series appeared in 2012. It also is named as the modular platform of diesel engines (MDB - Modularer Dieselbaukasten). The EA288 includes the 2.0 TDI and three-cylinder 1.4 TDI engines.

Another thing is the proper use of modern diesel engines. Short-distance driving can greatly reduce the life of the engine and its components. Drivers praise the 1.6 dCi for its flexibility and decent power, which ensures good dynamics even with heavier French-brand models.
However there are some things you need to verse yourself on. The VW 1.5, 1.6, and early (1993-1996 and some thereafter) 1.9 are IDI or Indirect Injection engines. The newer 1.9 (1996 Passats, 1997 and on Jettas, and 1998 and on Golfs) and later "Clean Diesels" are TDI or Direct Injection engines. Now just because there is a Turbo on an IDI Petrol engine options - 1.4-litre (122bhp, 160bhp). Diesel engine options - 1.6-litre (105bhp); 2.0-litre (140bhp). Transmission options: Five and six-speed manual gearboxes plus seven-speed DSG transmission depending on model. Trim levels: S, SE, Sport. Alternative cars. Volvo S40 Compact S40's cabin is small and ambience is a little stark Skodas also tend to perform well for real world economy; expect 45-50mpg for either the 1.9- or 2.0-litre diesels, 35-40mpg for the 1.8- and 2.0-litre petrols and an impressive 55mpg for the later Engine size/power: 1.2 TSI (103bhp) Location: Telford. Re: 2.0tdi any better than 1.6tdi. by Ryan » Mon Aug 17, 2015 4:29 pm. I have the same 2.0tdi PD BMM lump and not had any issues yet. Common things the DPF, but it's all pot luck with whatever van you buy. The 1.9 is the most reliable engine. Engine-wise, the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol was available in 81, 108 and 129bhp guises, plus a thirsty 118bhp 1.6-litre. The diesel range kicked off with an underpowered 69bhp 1.4-litre
Diesel engines. The facelifted Karoq diesel range consists of two variants of the Volkswagen Group’s 2.0-litre TDI Evo turbodiesel engine, providing 116hp or 150hp – the latter with the option of four-wheel drive. Choosing the 150hp 2.0-litre TDI would have been considered the safe option a short time ago – and it’s not hard to see why.
Diesel variants include the popular 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI 150, both of which are surprisingly refined. The 1.6 TDI should be the cheapest version to run, with road tax costs of £20 and a 68.9mpg DTM1.
