I disagree. I played CK2 when it came out and played (and loved playing) it for hundreds of hours before even the first paid DLC came out. EU4 can be enjoyed for hundreds of hours too without any DLC, in fact I recommend playing the first learning game with DLCs disabled even if you got them, the games are complex enough vanilla without adding the extra stuff each DLC brings.
It's okay, good for a hundred hours, if not more. There are some essential DLC and you'll find them on the tierlist from this sub. You can also take the subscription for $5/4 each month. 10. SyralC • 1 yr. ago. Thanks! I didn’t even know that tierlist existed so that’s a huge help lol.
I'd love to see your comment framed somewhere that all this sub and r/eu4 (and r/hoi4, and r/stellaris, etc) could see.All the talk about how paradox is making the game worse, and how the DLCs are overpriced, and how they make the game unplayable, and how "I'm gonna stick with 1.11, the last good version of the game", and all that bullshit is so exhausting, and and so frequent!
The title pretty much says it all. I've become a bit of a paradox vet over the last few years with Cities, Stellaris, Imperator Rome, CK3, and Vic3 but have yet to dip my toes into EU4, mainly in indecision over which dlc to get and is it worth without them or can I just keep digging into the other time period grand strategies. Depends on what you enjoy about grand strategy games. If you like nation building and conquest, then EU4 is a perfect match. I guess you'll just have to try it, I can't definitely say If a game that in it's entirety costs hundreds of dollars is going to be worth it for you. The_Kaiser249. • 2 yr. ago.

Yup. I paid like 40€ for base game, and all DLC, and that's expensive, because I didn't want to wait for a bundle with last 3 DLCs, so I paid like 8€ each for the newest ones, and 15 for bundle with everything before emperor. I don't get people who complain this game is expensive.

However, the DLC is all priced ridiculously, and isn't worth it unless it's on, like, 75% sale. DLC culture is terrible. I won't be buying any more paradox games until they get their ♥♥♥♥ together. Witohut DLC the game is a half baked beta.
As others say just get the subscription. Eu4 is definitely worth it if you have the patience to try and willingness to learn how it works, but don't buy it right away. Wait untill there is a good sale, preferably on humble bundle as those tend to be the best value. You really cant know unless youve tried it.
Art of War. Art of War, named after the book by Sun Tzu, focuses on military mechanics. It expands on the Thirty Years' War and the Napoleonic era, improves diplomacy (especially surrounding conflict and peace treaties), expands vassal mechanics and adds new options for waging war. The accompanying 1.8 patch amongst other things overhauled l2Kj7U.
