Contemplating a GS-850 vs 1250. I am in the market for a new GS and test rode both the 850 and the 1250. I currently am riding a 2016 R1200RT, and plan on keeping both bikes. The 850 was very nimble and peppy which I liked. I could not stand flat-footed, I'm 5'9". The 1250 felt more comfortable to stop, could stand fat-footed.
Diving right in, the R 1300 GS boasts an all-new powerhouse. The flat-twin boxer engine displaces 1,300 cubic centimeters, 46 more than the R 1250 GS’ 1,254cc engine. Likewise, the compression

Style. Our test unit was pretty hard to miss, resplendent in the Rallye colour scheme. The red, blue, and white look the best of the lot especially when you pair all the extra crash bars, luggage racks and the spoke wheels. The GSA model is also taller and wider than the standard GS adding to the beefier look.

The statement implying that the GS is lighter in weight is a misnomer. I have weighed a comparably outfitted BMW GSA (with similar fuel level) along with a Stelvio and the weights were close to the same (the Guzzi was 2-3 pounds lighter). I posted about this on one of the forum sites.

C’mon, you knew it was going to happen. How could we not put the newcomer to the ADV scene head-to-head with the long standing heavyweight from the Fatherlan

Yes, expensive, but serves the purpose and works for me. Very comfortable if inflated correctly. And you sit lower than on any of the other makes low seats.

In September I spent 8 days riding through the Alps, two up on a 1250 GS Adv. Honestly I detected no difference in engine performance compared to my 2018 1200 GS Adv. Unfortunately I cannot compare the gentle roads of Ontario Canada to the aggressive switchbacks of the Alps so it probably is not a fair evaluation. A GS is a better bike than the VStrom, no doubt about that. I’d put a VStrom at 75% of a GS. A top spec GS in the U.K. is around £20,000. Not a chance I’d pay that, it’s not double the price better. A base model GS is just short of £14,000. I’d definitely consider paying out for that as the base model GS is worth the extra money over LemxQQt.
