The warning light with turn on flashing together with the message on the display when the system detects that the engine oil is exhaust. After the initial signaling, each time the engine is started, the warning light will continue to flash cyclically for 3 minutes with intervals of 5 seconds with the warning light OFF until the oil is changed.

Recycle the Old Oil. Pour the used oil into a large jug. Fill the engine and run it until the dashboard oil light goes out. Wait a few minutes, then check the dipstick and add oil if needed. An another easier way to change oil is by using an oil extractor pump. Family Handyman.

The message appears if the DPF regen cycle is interupted three times before completion (i.e., if the engine was switched off before the cleaning cycle completed, three times in succession). The cycle takes about 4 minutes at 60mph, more at lower speeds.

In the on-board computer it indicated that the next change should be in 19,500km and about 330 days. I, however, did what I always do: I swapped whatever was inside and put brand new, Fiat spec oil.
In my opinion, Fiat’s 18,000 miles oil change interval is very optimistic. I think that no MultiAir engine should go longer than 10,000 miles or 12 months between oil changes. Alfa Romeo started with the same 18,000 miles interval but reduced it to 9,000 miles after a while.
